Precious cargo – hand-tinted etching

From a limited edition of only 15 hand-printed versions. Each one is varied because of the hand tinting and is therefore unique.
Since early childhood I've been fascinated by nesting birds, and the intricacy of complex structure birds make each spring. I'm reminded of a small boat - a coracle - and am impressed by how robust and weather-proof nests are. This brought to mind the title, precious cargo.
To make this etching, I use work my design into a shiny surface with an etching needle then press ink into the lines before wiping clean the unmarked surface of the plate, removing any excess from around the etched areas. Then the inked plate is run through a traditional printing press under damp archival paper.
