Light flows from their branches – landscape print
Fine art print on archival paper of a marshy woodland scene by Helen Arthur.
From an edition limited to 50. Available in 2 sizes – MEDIUM, 40 x 29.5cm / 16” x 12”, or LARGE, 60 x 40cm / 24” x 16”.
The title of this work is inspired by the outstanding American poet, Mary Oliver, who repeatedly wrote about the salvation of being in nature. This line is from her poem, ‘When I Am Among the Trees’.
Sometimes artworks are born of mistakes, always the best sort of creativity. I created the tree silhouettes as a printmaker’s etching, but the impression was too faint. Taking the opportunity to play, I added soft greens and blues, and just a hint of a fading sunset on the horizon.
For the foreground, I used fluid inks and a large brush to create swirling, watery marks onto tissue paper. To add an element of surprise and further abstraction, I collaged this beneath the etching. Sometimes risk-taking pays off.
