Black Mountain Lighted Up Grandly – print

from £95.00

Fine art print on archival paper of a Welsh Marches landscape painting by Helen Arthur.

From an edition limited to 50 prints in each size, available as LARGE, 44cm (w) x 55cm (h) / 17.5" x 21", or MEDIUM, 33cm x 44cm / 13" x 17".

I walked onto Hatterrall Ridge via the Red Darren on a late winter's day and the bright sunlight between grey clouds created patches of light in the valley below Black Hill. But the hill itself was glowing where the bracken had faded a yellow-ochre.

Black Hill is an iconic peak at the end of the Olchon Valley, Herefordshire. It features in the Reverend Kilvert's  diary, describing the Welsh marches in the 1870s. On one of his trips in the area, he observed "Black Mountain, Lighted Up Grandly" and this seemed an ideal title for the painting.

The original painting became very layered, as I loosely swept acrylic paint over the surface in the first pass, followed by opaque blocks of colour then soft pastels and crayons for detailed marks.
