All the moon long - original framed oil painting
An original Welsh Marches landscape painting by Helen Arthur.
Framed – 30 x 40cm (11.5 x 14.5”).
Have you ever seen the full moon early in the morning after sunrise? It’s unexpected and commands your attention. I love to see a moon in the daytime and so I thought it should feature in a painting.
I was drawn to Dylan Thomas’s descriptor “all the moon long” from his poem, Fern Hill (1945). It suggests how human life is cyclical and how we’re more governed by nature’s cycles than we realise. The moon here hangs over Black Hill (Crib y Garth is the Welsh name) - this is the view you get if you stand on Hatterrall Ridge, which marks the Welsh border.
