Flight Over Black Hill, Spring – oil painting

1 in stock

Original oil painting

We see the world differently using modern technology. I was able to get an overhead view of Black Hill,  a sandstone beacon on the Welsh border,  thanks to drone cinemaphotography. Then, from a single still which I minimised to a black and white image, I worked up four seasonal paintings of this iconic peak.

My palette, which  varies for each one, is imagined. I’m also informed by observing the hill at different times of day. These studies, where the view is  constant but with colour variations, are a great way to get up close to your subject matter. Monet famously painted hay stacks over and over, exploring and pushing his treatment of light and atmosphere.

Creamy oil paints on a fine linen give all four of these grouped paintings a beautiful finish:

  • professionally framed in a hand-tinted wooden tray frame
  • 11 x 9 x 1.5 inches
  • oil painting on canvas board
